ERASM: Environmental Risk Assessment Steering Management Committee
A join activity between detergent manufacturers and chemical producers.
ERASM (Environmental Risk Assessment Steering Management) Committee was constituted in 1991 and consists in a joint activity between the members of AISE (International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products) and the members of CESIO (European Committee of Surfactants and their Organic Intermediates), a sector group of CEFIC. Both organizations sponsor the ERASM activities equally.
The specific work of ERASM addresses technical issues related to the potential impact of surfactants and detergents.

The achievements
ERASM has successfully organized and executed the Dutch Risk Assessment of 4 priority surfactants (LAS, AE, AS, and AE); the delivery of GREAT-ER 1.0 to allow extrapolation of the Dutch results to the rest of Europe; the Terrestrial LAS risk assessment in Denmark; the Bioaccumulation studies at RITOX; etc…hereby gaining credibility and trust from leading European scientists and regulators.
Our scientists at P&G have been heavily involved into ERASM activities and have co-authored a number of reports and publications with their industry colleagues on the following topics:
More than 60 scientific publications have been issued from ERASM activities, contributing directly to the advancement of the science.
The GREAT-ER website includes all new info, manuals, documentation about the ERASM and LRI (Long-Range Research Initiative) sponsored GREAT-ER web and desktop software. There is also direct access to GREAT-ER web from the home page, and a web-user registration system.
Four years after the successful delivery of the first GREAT-ER model, the Research Liaison Team of CEFIC-LRI have completely revamped and modernized version of the GREAT-ER system. The new software now featuring a complementary 'desktop' and 'web' version- was designed to meet a broad variety of user needs and to facilitate access and regulatory acceptance. The ultimate goal of the project is to have the model managed and hosted by a regulatory agency or science organization.
