Mono Ethanol Amine (MEA)
MEA is used as a solvent in some of our laundry detergents. It helps dissolve the other ingredients in the product. MEA also lowers the freezing point of liquid laundry products so that they can be transported and stored at lower temperatures in winter months.
MEA is fully biodegraded, both aerobically and anaerobically. In conventional sewage treatment plants, MEA is highly removed (88.3% removal in a simulation test).
Aquatic toxicity data range from 5.1 mg/L to 200 mg/L for algae and fish, respectively.
