Ingredient Safety Information

Percarbonate
Sodium percarbonate peroxide works primarily as a bleach in laundry detergents. Percarbonate is usually used in combination with a bleach activator (TAED) to increase bleaching efficiency at low temperature. In the wash, this ingredient is rapidly hydrolysed to sodium, carbonate and hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide is the actual bleaching agent.

Although Percarbonate used in detergents cannot reach the aquatic environment (as it completely hydrolyses during the wash) toxicity data are available for fish and Daphnia with LC50 values of 71 and 4.9 mg/l.
