Ingredient Safety Information
Polycarboxylates
Polycarboxylates are high molecular weight polymers. They are widely used as detergent builders as partial replacements for polyphosphates. In addition, polycarboxylates disperse dirt to prevent re-deposition onto fabrics.
The biodegradation rates vary greatly depending on the size of the polymer. For the ones used in our laundry detergents (high molecular weight) biodegradation is relatively low but removal in wastewater treatment plant is generally above 70%.
Polycarboxylates are relatively non-toxic to aquatic orgasnims.
