Ingredient Safety Information

Titanium & Titanium dioxide
Titanium dioxide is the largest-volume white pigment. Titanium dioxide is valued for its opacifying strength (commonly called hiding power) and brightness. It is an element that is found in the earth's crust.

The material is used as an opacifier in glass and porcelain enamels, cosmetics, sunscreens, detergents, paper, and paints. Titanium dioxide is also a well-known photocatalyst for water and air treatment as well as for catalytic production of gases. Titanium dioxide is an inert and insoluble inorganic substance.

Effects of TiO2 on fish, invertebrates and bacteria have been investigated and is not considered to be harmful to aquatic organisms (EU commission, IUCLID data file, 2000).

Biodegradation is not applicable because silica is an inorganic compound.
