Our Science-in-the-Box website is designed to reach out to a variety of audiences and address diverse concerns and interests. To make our content more relevant to advocacy groups and other NGOs we have selected topics believed to be of particular interest to such organizations. Why did P&G create this website?
In 1999, P&G held two Western European stakeholder conferences about the environmental performance of detergents in Brussels. The main topic of the first conference was how to communicate environmental performance of products to the public. Science-in-the-box was created to address this identified need.
Is the product I use biodegradable? What's the best product for the environment?
Biodegradation is a process by which micro-organisms such as bacteria and fungi break down organic materials into smaller compounds, nutrients and water. When biodegradation is complete, there is no concern about potential effects on the environment.
Natural or synthetic surfactants, which one is better?
As with most scientific questions, there is no easy answer to this. In this article, we will provide facts and figures and try to provide answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about this controversial topic.
Is the product safe for me? Will it irritate my skin?
Even though often perceived to be responsible for skin reactions, our laundry products do not cause skin irritation under normal product use.
What do P&G think about animal testing?
We no longer use animals in evaluating the safety of our non-food, non-drug consumer products except when required by law.
