"A considerable amount of research goes into the formulation of a laundry detergent. In addition to the obvious concerns about performance in the wash and safety to the consumer and the environment, we study among other things - how different ingredients interact with one another under various conditions, how stable the new product is under extreme conditions of shipping and storage, and what modifications need to be made to the manufacturing process. Detergents are formulations made up of several ingredients, including surfactants, enzymes and builders. Formulators ideally have access to a broad range of surfactants, which gives them more flexibility with which to achieve optimum detergent performance under a broad range of circumstances"...
